RETURN TO BLOGS

Assuming you want to provide your user with the best search and content experience, you need to optimize your meta data. These technical SEO aspects (meta title, description, H1, etc.) need to be present in order for the SERPs to give the user information relevant to the search.

SEO Best Practices:

Updating your meta data is one of the key components to being successful with your content. Please see below for the distinct details on meta description, title tag, header tags (H1) and image alt tags.

  • Meta Description: Used to gain user click-through from SERPs. These short paragraphs are an opportunity to advertise content to searchers, letting them know what information can be found on the page.
    • Between 150-160 characters
    • Use of primary keyword
    • Call to action
    • No duplicates
  • Title Tag: An accurate concise description of the page’s content. Valuable for both the user experience and search engines.
    • Between 50-60 characters
    • Readable to consumers
    • No duplicates
  • Header Tags (H1): Used to denote sections of a page, H1 being the most important. Help search engines define what your page is about in detail and differentiate each page or section of a business.
    • Relevant to content on the page
    • Use of primary keyword
    • Must be unique and short
  • Image Alt Tags: Text that appears if an image cannot be displayed. Tells the search engine a description of the image.
    • Short description
    • Use of keywords if possible
    • No duplicates
